Annie James Rollins writes picture books and middle grade novels for and about disabled and queer kids like them. Annie James is an author and scholar of children's literature and international school librarian. They live in Tokyo, Japan with their black cat familiar. They have a BA East Asian Studies with minors in communications and gender/sexuality studies from Simmons College University a MFA Writing for Children & Young Adults from Hamline University. Their MFA critical thesis was "Grief Grand Gestures in Middle Grade Fiction." Annie James is a Rhysling Award nominee (2021) and a Best of the Net finalist (2022). In 2020, they were a Walter Grant finalist for their middle grade novel Alternate Universe. Their picture book manuscript, The Remembering Blanket, was chosen by Joëlle Retener as their PB Rising Stars runner-up. They write speculative poetry and short stories for grown-ups as Meep Matsushima.
Annie James's first name is "Annie James," so their initials are "A.R.," not "A.J.R." (Their middle name is Louisa.) You may see old (2023 or earlier) references to Annie James with she/her pronouns but Annie James uses they/them pronouns. Please use Mx. if an honorific is required.
